In MIssouri, you have to have your BS degree in education, then get a Master’s in psychology (educational psychology/ counseling) Before you can get your position as a counselor you have to have a minimum of two (maybe three) years of actual teaching experience.
BS in education usually takes 4.5 years
MS can range in time needed, usually 2
plus the 2 years of teaching experience.

In TX, you need your Education degree, and a Masters in Counseling, and a few years of classroom teaching (I think 5 years of teaching). So 4 years for the batchlors degree +2 years for the masters degree + 5 years of classroom teaching = 11 years. Good luck.
