Every school district is based on the size of the town/city/county. It all depends on how many kids you’ve got that need to go to school…there are so many here in ours that I can’t even count! 100+…Then they divide them all into districts, so the kids go to the schools that are closer to them, in attempt to control overcrowding, and equally dividing up the government funding among them all.

it doesn’t matter how people live in an area. school districts cover so many square miles. the state i live in has a grade school and a high school in a town that is 50 miles from anything, and it is its own district.

It all depends on the size of the community the district serves. Where I work we have one elementary school and one jr high/high school. Where I went to school we had 12 elementary schools, two middle school and one huge high school (graduating class was 650).

It can depend on the city or state. In Illinois, Chicago Public has HUNDREDS of schools in its jurisdiction. But go 50 miles south, and some small towns might only have 1 or 2 elementary schools, 1 middle school, and 1 high school. Other places have 1 school district for a whole county, which sounds like what you have.

The school district I graduated from in PA had 2 high schools, 3 middle schools, and probably like 8 or so elementary schools. And that was for the entire county. Now, I teach in Ohio and the school district is made up of one high school, one middle school, and three elementary schools. It basically serves just one town and the surrounding farm land. The size just all depends on the population and how large an area the school district is serving.
