Read House of God.

Next, take classes in HS that prepare you for admission to a University.

Then, takes courses at the university that satisfy all the medical school admissions requirements.

Then, try to get into medical school.

Volunteer at a hospital or nursing home. Get hands on experience…..that way you know if you are “cut out” for a medical career.
Also…if possible take a Emergency Medical Technician course or a First Responder course. Check with your local fire dept or hospital to inquire about those classes. CPR classes would help also. Good Luck

Take all of the hardest classes and get high grades. This will prepare you for university academics which are…quite different. Almost all of your marks come from tests in university.

When you finally get into college/university, you’ll want to talk to someone about what courses to take, and you’ll want to concentrate on getting high marks.

High marks count the most, but you’ll also want to do some volunteer work in university because it will look really nice on your application.

You don’t need to start studying for the MCAT for awhile. It’s not really that hard. When the time comes, say maybe a year before you’re going to take it, you can start studying for it a little bit here and there and get resources and books that will help you ace it.

I’m about to begin the admission process for medical school. The best thing you can do in highschool is to prepare yourself for your undergraduate work in college. I’ve worked as a paramedic, and that experience helped me confirm that medicine was the route for me. You might consider taking an EMT course and spending a little time working on an ambulance or in the ER. This could give you a little hands on experience to see if this is really what you want to do. When you get to college, talk to the pre-med or pre-health advisor. They can show you the requirements for pre-med. Study hard and get good grades. The average GPA at most medical schools is very high, 3.77 at the school I’m applying to. Also, take a review course for the MCAT. They are expensive (around $1500) but they will make a huge difference in your performance. Any volunteer work is good. It doesn’t have to be in the medical field. Any community involvement looks GREAT on you application. I hope this helps you out a little bit. Good luck!
