WeLost2God on 15 May, 2008 at 4:42 am #

Idiots, “Punk” did not start,it has always been there. But then it turned into a “Oh-look-I’m-(enter wanted stereotype here)” type thing-y. As did TomBoy, Goth, and many other things I won’t bother listing.

hivestandard..to address the false assumpton underlying your response..I’m not American, I’m Canadian, so its not a matter of national pride where punk started, just respect for the facts..I was around then, saw the Stooges and Dolls in 74-75 and Ramones in 1976, know the history as it coincided with my life…punk has lots of roots but really started in the US..I love the Pistols and Clash, but look and you’ll find testimonials from Joe Strummer/Bono etc about the impact the first Ramones album.

but everybody knows thist:
the first and true punk was iggy pop!

filipper on 31 May, 2008 at 6:58 am #

You show the typical attitude of a wannabe…

“meh, if you dont look like punk you ain’t one, and anarchy is a type of soup”

The punk is not all about ripped jeans, combat boots and mohawks, its about the belief, If someone in a suit belives in “Fuck everything” then he is a punk, and you seem like a god-damn poser to me, thats it…

oh and the ramones were the founders of punk, so go off to listen to the Fallout boy kid…

Tystanaden on 31 May, 2008 at 10:52 am #

its just that they played the sound of punk but they didnt have the lifestyle so they arent really punk

localsd92109 on 4 June, 2008 at 3:54 am #

American punk was started by bands called The Sonics, MC5 and the stooges in the mid 60s. and English punk began with the The Deviants in 1967. just the label punk rock had not been coined yet. Malcolm McLaren was only an influence on the punk rock fashions.

wafflewoffle on 5 June, 2008 at 11:34 am #

Punk was a word what meant poor/jackass before Legs McNeil gived that name to the music called “Punk”

SYNDICADO on 5 June, 2008 at 10:06 pm #

Iggy already had been around with a “R0CK” sound late 60’s the Sabbath crowd didn’t like, and the Beatles and Hendrix crowd couldn’t figure out.

SYNDICADO on 8 June, 2008 at 12:09 pm #

1965- Iggy.
Before punk was even a word, beats and poets had it.

mrskellington33 on 8 June, 2008 at 12:42 pm #

¬¬ my comment…. as you probably misunderstood, means the all punk, made after the year of 1990, (more current punk) sucks. with little acceptions. the real meaning of punk is rarely thought of as “sum 41″ or shit bands like that. people dont understand what punk really means, and say the new shit is punk. the new shit has nothing to do with punk.
