Kianna asked:

I am a freshman in high school and I have to wear colored shirts (any color) and cotton pants (brown, black, grey, white, and khaki). What can I add to dress it up and look different? And do you have any tips for make-up? Im african american with the same skin color as jennifer hudson but I want a natural look. Any school appropriate suggestions?

If you want you can get different colored, cute sweaters/hoodies. Though it’s still going to be hot when you go back to school i’d save the sweaters for incoming fall. It’s your preference whether you want to carry a purse, hand bag, back pack, tote, and whatever bag you like. If you really want dress up and look different, you can add designs to the bag or if it’s already unique just leave it at that.

You can have cute hairstyle and put cute floral hair accessories, headbands, printed scarves, a hat[idk if your school allow hats] I mean there are a lot of options.

You also can put jewlery…beaded necklaces, bangles/bracelets, nice earrings[can be feathered, hoop, silver/gold, any kind]. Jewlery is up to you.

For makeup try having a natural look…bcuz remember it’s school and you want to presentable right. Um you can use like any eye shadow you want but remember you’re at school, and you don’t want anything too flashy/showy like you’re going to a party or something. You can have like brown eyeshadow on your lids w/ gold eyeshadow on the crease. Brown e/s, gold e/s, and light pink e/s, can make a natural look. The makeup for you is totally up to you.

For shoes that’s also up to you. You can wear possibly anything flats, dressy shoes, cute sneakers, high heels[i would suggest not bcuz you're going to be walking probably for the whole day.]

Since you’re in a uniformed school make sure you don’t break any codes. Have fun dressing up and adding some of your own flavor to it. Use your fashion sense and good luck on your first day and first year..you’ll have great fun!!!

I go to a private school so I know what you’re going through with the uniforms. My uniform is a lot more strict than yours is, so dressing it up a bit should be easy.

First analyse your own personal style outside of school, doing this will help you figure out what accessories you want to bring into your school outfit. Just use the accessories that you wear on a daily basis to spice up your uniform. Do your shoes have to be mandated? If not your shoes can set you apart as well.

Now you mentioned makeup, for school you should keep it light and fresh, a great foundation that matchess your skin tone is a good way to start, it will help cover any imperfections and give an overall polished look. There are many different types of foundations to choose from, powder, liquid, mouuse, mineral, spray, and probably many more. I love powder for an even but natural look, if you need more coverage you should try liquid with a powder over it to combat shine.

For eyes I would stay with browns and taupes, nothing too dark or too light. Keeping your eye makeup simple and classic send a professional amd focused message while keeping you soft and pretty, a dark eyeliner on your lids defines your eyes but you should make sure to keep the line smooth and thin to avoid “racoon eyes” no matter how popular it is with the teen crowd these days.Mascara opens your eyes and can add drama to any makeup application, it is the universal eye opener, if you wear nothing elsemake sure you wear mascara. Blush helps finish a look and gives color to your face, it ties your whole look together. Choose a blush that suits your skin tone and texture, cremes work for some but powders work better for others.

To help your makeup look effortless and beautiful you need to start with a good canvas. Keep your skin looking it’s best whatever that means for you, drink plenty of water, excercise and get your sleep it really makes a difference.

I wish you the best of luck with this and i hope I was able to help.
